- This zine is part of a series where I write about the underlying themes surrounding gender and sexuality in movies that I grew up with. This issue looks at the movie The Hot Chick, and how this body-swapping comedy movie accidentally provided queer and trans representation, even though it was far from perfect. The zine contains images from the movie, my own writing and digital drawings, as well as the movie’s soundtrack.
- Please note: we do not support Rob Schneider or his statements on Dylan Mulvaney and transgender people. It is disappointing, yet not surprising, that he played this trans-coded character and yet is transphobic. This movie, The Hot Chick, was filled with homophobic, transphobic, and racist rhetoric and "jokes". And yet, this movie, and others in this series, was a source of queer representation during a time when positive queer representation was lacking in mainstream media. While the zine discusses these issues, it was written before learning of Rob Schneider's transphobic statements.
