Scissors is an independent newspaper Zine based in Lenapehoking (Philly). It is made by and for Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous, & POC (QTBIPOC) Dykes. Each month features a different theme and for the month of February 2024, the theme was: "The Homoerotic Best Friend That Every Lesbian Has But Ends Up Changing The Trajectory of Your Life".
"It’s been four years since the vast majority of residents within Lenapehoking (Philadelphia) have been affected by C*vid-19. What has happened within these four years to the Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous, and POC (QTBIPOC) Dyke communities? This is the main question investigated for our March edition: “Celebrating four years of c*ronav*rus, genoc*de and cognitive dissonance”.
The submissions within this edition travel between the personal and the systemic. Intracommunal frustrations: hypocrisy of BIPOC liberation spaces, having to choose which marginalized identity within oneself to prioritize, ableism within the Philly lesbian scene. Intercommunal frustrations: our government being a yt supremacist, eugen*c, fasc*st state, public health prioritizing money over lives, the healthcare system and workers' hatred of disabled folks. Personal frustrations: handling grief while having to work, not being able to afford health insurance, and navigating being disabled.
This theme brought Scissors into conversation with our communities’ lived life experiences. These are stories from your sisters, your classmates, your teachers, the non-binary hottie who lives across the street. Even if you find these stories hard to read, they are worth listening to."
