You can think of it like pulling tarot cards.
I read these old books, cutting sentences as I go - they get added to a large cigar box I have full of them.
I have a stack of finished illustrations - waiting for words.
Sometimes the words come out one after another into a totally finished poem like some divine message.
other times it is like a million piece jigsaw where all the pieces look the same.
sometimes the words dictate the image they need, other times the image has to say yes to the words.
All the poems deal with different aspects of my experience at the intersections of my identities and experiences.
